We call upon you now to act with resolve, unilaterally if necessary, to dismantle the criminal networks and complicit state actors across our southern border. America cannot afford to wait. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s May 3rd rejection of your offer to deploy U.S. troops is more than a diplomatic disagreement—it is a deliberate insult. Cloaked in rhetoric about “sovereignty,” her dismissal masks a dangerous reality: a government too entangled with cartels to take meaningful action. As you rightly pointed out on May 4th aboard Air Force One, her fear of cartel retaliation is not strength—it is surrender. Worse still, she has attempted to weaponize this crisis for political gain, casting the United States as a villain to rally nationalist support and distract from her own impotence.
We must not play along. This is not the time to ask for permission. When American lives are being lost by the thousands, sovereignty becomes a shield for inaction. Precedent exists: in 1989, the United States invaded Panama and removed Manuel Noriega for his role in drug trafficking. Today’s threat is larger, bloodier, and closer.
